This project involves the design and development of a Bird Strike Drill Jig, a specialized work-holding fixture used in aerospace manufacturing to ensure accurate hole placement in aircraft structures. The jig was designed in CATIA V5 and includes various clamping and alignment features for high-precision drilling.
Key Features and Design Considerations:
- Rigid Clamping Mechanism: Ensures stability during the drilling process, minimizing vibrations and misalignment.
- Adjustable Locators: Precisely position the jig relative to the aircraft structure.
- High-Strength Material Selection: Designed for durability and long-term use in manufacturing environments.
- Ergonomic Toggle Clamp: Provides secure and easy locking of the workpiece.
- Drill Bushings: Guide the drill bit for consistent hole accuracy and repeatability.
Additionally, detailed engineering drawings were created for reference, specifying dimensions, tolerances, and machining details to ensure precision and manufacturability.
